SOMERVILLE, MA — A City Councilor has announced he is running for State Senator of the Second Middlesex District, according to a report from The Somerville Times.
Ward 1 City Councilor Matthew McLaughlin is aiming to be the successor to incumbent and fellow Somerville resident Pat Jehlen. McLaughlin has spent 12 years in the local Somerville government and is now looking to expand his municipal service.
McLaughlin named cost of living as one of the biggest challenges Massachusetts is facing, and his desire to improve the situation as a driving force behind his 2026 candidacy.
