Long-vacant Somerville Store Torn Down After 17 Years: Report (patch.com) — Somerville residents watched as the long-abandoned Star Market on Broadway was finally demolished after 17 years sitting vacant, with Mayor-elect Jake Wilson calling it an eyesore. The high-profile teardown clears the way for a mixed-use project featuring affordable housing, retail space, and community parking that could reshape this part of the city.

Two new Greater Boston restaurants and 3 more that closed last week (nbcboston.com) — Somerville diners just gained a new Korean fried chicken spot in Union Square while long-running Greek favorite Daddy Jones in Magoun Square is closing after more than a decade. Office of Public Safety issues temporary card-access restrictions in Medford/Somerville, Grafton campuses following Brown shooting (tuftsdaily.com) — Tufts is tightening building access on its Medford/Somerville campus this week, shifting most spaces to card-only entry and posting public safety staff at non-carded buildings. These temporary measures follow a deadly shooting at Brown University and come with reminders to carry Tufts IDs, avoid holding doors for strangers, and report suspicious activity as patrols also increase on the Grafton campus.
   

4. High school roundup/scores: Sarah Michel notches triple-double for Blue Hills (bostonherald.com) — Somerville High’s boys hockey team fell 3–1 to Wakefield in recent regional action, one of many results in a busy night of high school sports. The roundup highlights standout performances across Massachusetts, but Somerville readers will especially note their team’s early-season test on the ice.
