Somerville Names Ohemeng Kyeremateng as New Parks Director (thesomervillenewsweekly.blog) — Somerville has appointed Ohemeng Kyeremateng as the new Director of Parks & Recreation, bringing more than a decade of municipal recreation leadership to the city. He and Mayor Jake Wilson emphasize expanding access, strengthening youth and community programs, and improving stewardship of local parks and facilities for residents of all ages.

2. Somerville biotech company to lay off more than 80 MA workers this year (wickedlocal.com) — A Somerville biotech employer, Tessera Therapeutics, plans to permanently lay off 90 workers, including 82 Massachusetts employees, starting March 8. The Somerville-based company, headquartered on South Street, has filed a WARN notice and says affected staff will receive at least 60 days’ notice and potential severance as it continues advancing its gene therapy programs.

3. DARPA backs Diffraqtion to demo ‘quantum camera' for space, Earth surveillance (breakingdefense.com) — A Somerville-based startup, Diffraqtion, has landed a $1.5 million DARPA contract to develop a “quantum camera” that could dramatically speed up space and Earth surveillance imaging. The MIT- and UMD-linked company plans on-sky tests through 2027 and aims to launch its first space-domain-awareness satellite in 2028, potentially boosting the local deep-tech and defense innovation scene.

AI-Designed Antibodies Are Racing Toward Clinical Trials (singularityhub.com) — Somerville’s Generate:Biomedicines is highlighted for early clinical results using an AI-designed antibody that reduced asthma-related proteins with few side effects. The piece zooms out to show how labs and biotech firms worldwide are racing to use generative AI to design new antibodies faster, potentially reshaping treatments for cancer, infections, and other diseases.
