Formlabs said it is producing up to 150,000 nasal swabs a day to help the medical community address supply chain shortages.

SOMERVILLE, MA — A Somerville-based company has partnered with two hospitals to mass produce nasal swabs for coronavirus testing. Formlabs, a 3D printing technology developer and manufacturer, is 3D printing swabs for patients at Northwell Health in New York and USF Health in Florida.

Formlabs said its aim is to help the medical community address shortages in the supply chain. The company is sharing its design with other institutions across the country and is working to design, prototype and produce other parts through 3D printing.

Formlabs said it is producing up to 150,000 swabs per day at its FDA-registered facility in Ohio, which has more than 250 3D printers. Its partner hospitals will also print on-site as needed.
