Somerville PD: Lobo, The Department's K-9, Has Died
Lobo served the department for nearly 8 years and was trained to locate missing persons, suspects, evidence, bombs and firearms.

SOMERVILLE, MA —The Somerville Police Department announced Monday that department K-9 Lobo has died
The department said the K-9, which had been with the SPD for almost eight years, died suddenly on Saturday.
"(Lobo) entered into Police service with his handler Officer Timothy Sullivan on Dec. 24, 2015," the department said in a statement. "He proudly served the residents of Somerville for nearly eight years. Lobo will be missed and we ask that you keep him and the Sullivan family in your thoughts during this difficult time."

According to the SPD, Lobo was trained to locate missing persons, search for suspects, locate evidence and detect bombs, bomb-making materials and firearms.
A spokesman for the SPD said Lobo was the department's only K-9. The department had no further details about Lobo's cause of death nor a timetable for when another K-9 might be trained and added to the force.
