Somerville Resident Injured While Hiking Mt. Chocorua In NH
Steven Mathieu was descending a trail from the summit Saturday afternoon when he severely injured his ankle.
SOMERVILLE, MA — A Somerville resident was injured Saturday while hiking the Champney Falls Trail on Mt. Chocorua in New Hampshire.
Steven Mathieu, 36, was descending the trail from the summit with a group of six friends around 4:15 p.m. when he severely injured his ankle.
The group was over 2.5 miles from the trailhead and there is no cell service in the area, so two members of the group hiked out and drove to service in order to call for help. A passing hiker assisted Mathieu by splinting his ankle and he did attempt to move down the trail, but his injury prevented any significant progress.
