UPDATED: Two Stabbed Inside Tufts University Fraternity

University officials say victims were transported to an area hospital and are not affiliated with Tufts. Shelter-in-place order lifted.

Two people were stabbed early Sunday morning at Tufts University, authorities said, which led to a shelter-in-place order to all students on campus.

Tufts University Police Department and Somerville Police Department responded early Sunday to a report of a stabbing inside 98 Professors Row, the Delta Tau Delta fraternity house, the university said in a statement.

Police discovered two victims of apparent stab wounds, who were transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The victims are not affiliated with Tufts University.

According to Tufts officials, police investigators are speaking with witnesses to obtain information about the suspect or suspects. At this time the crime appears to be non-random, the university said.

Police have completed a search of the campus and the immediate vicinity and are advising that members of the Tufts community may return to their normal activities on the Medford/Somerville campus.

There will continue to be an enhanced police presence on campus during the investigation.

The shelter in place order from police alerted all campus residents seek shelter immediately following the stabbing, telling them to go to a room, lock doors and stay away from windows. The order was lifted just after 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
