ICYMI: Sudbury-Wayland Pie Eating Contests from the '60s and '70s

Do you recognize anyone in these videos? A Sudbury native found footage of Lions Clubs-sponsored pie-eating contests from the early '70s.

SUDBURY, MA — It's a small-town tradition that was once as popular as the potato sack race or a Little League parade. The pie-eating contest, where participants dig into the desserts hands-free, trying to eat faster than their neighbors.

And here, those neighbors were in Wayland and Sudbury, participating as part of a pie-eating contest held by the Sudbury-Wayland Lions Club.

Sudbury native Tom McDonough, whose dad was a member of the Lions Club, found these videos while going through a box of old home movies. McDonough thinks the contests took place at the Featherland field.
