Sudbury Gun Business Zoning Law: Public Forum Is Thursday
The Thursday forum will explain the proposed zoning law ahead of spring Town Meeting.
SUDBURY, MA — A long anticipated public forum to discuss a proposed zoning law for gun businesses will take place Thursday, a little over a month before Town Meeting will vote on it.
The proposed law would use zoning to effectively prevent any gun-related businesses from opening in town. The law bans firearms businesses from every zone except industrial zones. A potential gun business would still need select board approval before opening in an industrial zone.
The proposed law also sets strict criteria for how a gun business could operate in town, limiting things like business hours and the number of gun businesses that could operate on a single property (one).

The zoning law was first proposed via citizen petition at the 2023 Town Meeting, but was defeated, with town officials saying the Sudbury Select Board would take on the matter. Resident Frank Riepe proposed the law after the discovery of a mill in Littleton being used by dozens of gun sellers.
The forum will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Goodnow Library.
