Sudbury Rallies to Fill 'HopeBoxes' for Children Refugees

Sudbury parents have joined the Boy and Girl Scouts to organize a drive for Operation Refugee Child.

SUDBURY, MA—A group of moms in Sudbury have teamed up with local Girl and Boy Scout Troops in town to organize a drive in support of Operation Refugee Child. The organization provides many supplies to children around the world, but is focused on getting backpacks to children in refugee camps in Greece and Jordan.

"The wonderful thing about this organization is that it's a beautiful opportunity for young children to get involved and help, while also teaching them about gratitude and compassion," said Amy Kohen, one of the parent organizers. "The students are the same age as many of the children in this humanitarian crisis."

The supplies for each child is packed in a "HopeBox"and sent to California, and then transferred to a backpack and delivered to the children abroad.

There are drop off locations all over town (in the lobby of each elementary school, Sunny Hill lobby and LEAP lobby). The Boy Scouts are working on getting a bin at the Goodnow Library as well.

Organizers are happy to have local business donate as well (dentist can donate toothbrushes, toy stores can donate hot wheels and dolls, etc).
