The Senior Center is planning a variety of activities for seniors over the next several weeks.

Learn about Adaptive Equipment from a Physical Therapist
Elizabeth Crowley, PT, DPT, Staff Physical Therapist at the Center of Rehabilitative and Sports Therapies at Emerson Hospital will be at the Sudbury Senior Center on Monday, July 18 at 1:00 PM to discuss assistive equipment that you might use either when recovering from surgery or on a regular basis, if needed. The Legendary Judy Garland
Bruce Hambro presents “The Legendary Judy Garland” an engaging one-hour review of the life and fabulous career of the girl from Oz! During the program, an informative discussion is teamed with music and a power-point presentation that includes fascinating archival photos, many of which harken back to the delightful motion pictures in which Judy starred. The Legendary Judy Garland review will take place at the Sudbury Senior Center on Thursday, July 21 at 2:00 PM. Cost of the program is $7.00 at the door. Nutrition Counseling
Do you need tips for making meals for one? Do you need information on improving your diet and making it brain and heart healthy? Sign up for one-to-one nutrition counseling with nutritionist Traci Robidoux, RD, LDN, of BayPath Elder Services. She will be scheduling one hour appointments on Thursday, July 28 from 12:00 – 3::00 PM at the Sudbury Senior Center. Caring Café - Meet Me at the Movies
Please join us for a one-of-a-kind film experience, designed specifically for people living with memory loss and their loved ones at the Sudbury Senior Center on Friday, August 5th from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. We will show short clips from classic films and TV, followed by audience discussion and reminiscence guided by a moderator. This program is jointly sponsored by Pleasantries Adult Day Care, Traditions of Wayland, Right at Home, Hearthstone at New Horizons and the Sudbury Senior Center. This program is free and all are welcome, but seating may be limited. Please RSVP to wecare@thehearth.org.
Cancer Support group
Nancy Gaulin, Psy.D., of Facing Cancer and Anne Manning, LMHC, will offer a Cancer Support Group on Monday’s beginning July11th, from 12:30-2:00 PM at the Sudbury Senior Center. This group will run through the summer. This program is a support group for people who are living with a cancer diagnosis. In a warm, supportive and safe community, we explore the challenges of living with cancer. Together, we find ways to support one another and cope with multiple life changes and managing uncertainty. 2 Watercolors Workshop
Join our delightful Watercolors Workshop with instructor Sandy Wilensky on Friday afternoons from
11:30 AM-1:30 PM, July 8-Sept. 2, No class on August 19. Class is 8 weeks; cost is $56. A second workshop called “Plein air class Watercolor” will be held on the above dates, but will start at 2:00 PM. The Plein air watercolor class will meet in different outdoor locations to paint outside. Class is open to those with lots of experience as well as new artists. During inclement weather, class will meet in the Instructor’s studio, ArtSpace at 63 Summer St., Maynard, MA. World’s Greatest Paintings DVD Series
The Sudbury Senior Center will be showing “World’s Greatest Paintings DVD Series” on the following Mondays—July 11, 25, August 8, 15, 22 & 29. Stop by with your brown bag lunch at 12:30 PM. The DVD will start at 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM (two 30 minute lectures). This series will discuss some of the most significant painting in Western Art taking you from the 14th century to the 20th, distinguished art historian and veteran Great Courses’ Professor William Kloss reveals a group of works that rank among the greatest paintings ever made. Teen Tech
We have added additional Teen Tech sessions on Tuesdays during the summer beginning July 12 – Aug 23 from 1:00 PM - 3:45 PM. Stop by to learn all about the new Senior Center website and to get technical help creating a login Id on Eventbrite so you can sign up for future programs being offered at the Sudbury Senior Center. Short Story Discussion Group
Join Lois Leav at the Senior Center for a discussion of the short story “A Good Man is Hard to Find” on Thursday, July 28 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Lois, who is a book and story lover, will facilitate the discussion. Call us at the Senior Center to let us know that you will attend at 978-443-3055. Thank you Lois for suggesting this idea!
Paintings for Sale
Sudbury Senior Center’s watercolor class recently painted pictures of 50 different “African Animals”. Twenty-five of these paintings are currently on display at the Goodnow Library. Prints of the paintings have been made and are currently for sale in 11x14 mats and in postcard format. The proceeds support “The Friends of Sudbury Seniors”. Please stop by the Goodnow Library to view this exhibit.
FISH Volunteer Medical Transportation
F.I.S.H. NEEDS DRIVERS! FISH. (Friends in Services Helping) is a volunteer organization that provides transportation for Sudbury residents to medical appointments, when their family and friends are not available. The volunteer drivers are under no obligation to accept any assignment unless it fits with their schedules. There is no monthly or weekly requirement. F.I.S.H. is a great way to help your neighbors in need. If you are willing to become a driver, please call Ed Gottmann at 978-443-9233 or Jane Graham at 978-443-1813.
Jimmy Lehoux Band and The Turkey Train
On Wednesday, October 19, join Sudbury Senior Trips and take a ride on the “Turkey Train” from Meredith, NH, while enjoying the Fall foliage. Have lunch and matinee of the Jimmy Lehoux Band, a fun time of “New England” goes country.” Day trip includes motor coach to NH. Please stop by the Sudbury Senior Center for more detailed information.
Pizza and a Movie
Pizza will be served at 12:00 PM – Movie starts at 12:30 PM on Thursday afternoons during July and August at the Sudbury Senior Center. We are also showing two child friendly movies; “Inside Out” and “How to Train Your Dragon”. The play list is as follows: “Inside Out”- kids welcome on July 14, No movie on July 21,“In the Heart of the Sea” on July 28, “Burnt” on Aug 4, “Doctor Zhivago” on Aug 11, “How to Train Your Dragon” -kids welcome on Aug 18 and “East Side Sushi” on Aug 25. Forever Motown
Sudbury Senior Trips will leave on Wednesday, September 21 to see the iconic sounds and choreography of “Motown” performed by veteran entertainers. Featuring songs of The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, and many more. This day trip includes transportation, lunch and show. The tour company is Best of Times. Please sign up and pay at the Sudbury Senior Center by August 9, 2016.
Foxwoods Trip – August 1, 2016
The 2016 Foxwoods trips will continue on a quarterly basis with Deanna Sklenak and Ron Ragno organizing and promoting them—thanks Deanna and Ron! Please sign up early, so that we can be sure to have enough participants to cover the bus fee. Trips have been scheduled for August 1, and November 7. The cost of the trip is $26.00 which includes transportation and the following casino coupons: $10.00 food/buffet voucher and $10.00 slot play.
Friday at the Movies
Relax on Friday afternoons with a movie at the Sudbury Senior Center. All movies are shown on Fridays at 12:30 PM. We are currently showing. “Wicked: The New Musical” on July 15, “Trumbo” on July 22 “Hachi: A Dogs Tale” on July 29, “Youth” on Aug 5 and “Lady in the Van” on August 12. Medical Equipment Loan Closet
The Senior Center Medical Equipment Loan Closet is available for those in need of medical equipment such as shower chairs, walkers, canes, commodes, transfer benches and wheelchairs. The Sudbury Senior Center can provide the item on loan for as long as it is needed, at no cost. We also welcome donations of clean, gently used equipment in particular we are in need of wheelchairs, transport chairs, shower chairs and 4 wheeled walkers. The 2016 Great Rivers of Europe Tour
Please join Sudbury Senior Trips on a 16-day River Cruise leaving from Amsterdam on October 7, 2016. You will travel by boat through Amsterdam, Germany and Austria with 11 stops along the way. Tax Work-off Program
Applications are now available for the Sudbury Senior and Veterans Tax Work-off Program at the Sudbury Senior Center. Eligible Sudbury seniors or veterans may be able to work in a Town Department and “earn” a tax abatement for the following year. This year, there are seniors and Veterans working at the Town Clerk’s office, the Sudbury Senior Center, the IT Department, DPW and the Sudbury Public Schools.
They are particularly in need of workers at the Put ‘n’ Take. Veterans should submit a copy of their discharge papers with their application. All applications should be delivered to: Sudbury Senior Center, Tax Work-off Program, 40 Fairbank Road, Sudbury, MA 01776. Current Events
The Sudbury Senior Center Current Events group meets at the Senior Center twice a month on the first and third Thursdays of the month from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
