WATCH: Paddle a Kayak Down the Sudbury River
'It's a real gem in the heart of suburbia.'

SUDBURY, MA—Over 4th of July weekend, Sudbury native Tom McDonough dipped his kayak into the Sudbury River, launching at Route 27 and paddling downstream to Weir Hill.
McDonough, who graduated from the Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School Class of 1969, now lives in Vermont, but visits his mom (who still lives in Sudbury), and says it's "fun to revisit things I did as a kid."
"My wife and I are just occasional kayakers," said McDonough, "but have hauled the kayaks down from VT a couple of times while visiting Mom. The Sudbury River is a gem...The paddle out was splendid, and we only saw one or two other paddlers. The wind picked up on the paddle back, but it was still a great paddle. Herons were at every bend. We came on a doe and two fawn who quickly darted back into the tall grass. Geese, ducks, water birds, turtles, muskrats....this section of river is the equal to many places we paddle in VT. It's a real gem in the heart of suburbia, and I'm amazed that more folks weren't out there taking advantage of it."
