Your Guide: Sailplanes Taking Flight in Sudbury
Contest will be held this weekend at Davis Field.

Sleek sailplanes constructed of high-tech composite materials will soar upward on rising thermals during a contest to be held August 10-11 at Davis Field on Route 117 in Sudbury.
Gliders with wing spans of 10 to 12 feet will be towed several-hundred feet into the air by electric winches. After being released, these gliders will fly free and be guided by remote radio control.
Pilots are scored on their ability to locate and ride rising air currents (thermals) and on their skill in landing their aircraft. Flying will take place from about 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. Spectators are welcome.
This contest is one of a series of contests sponsored by the Eastern Soaring League. The contests are held at club locations from Maryland to Massachusetts and draw contestants from many of the eastern states.
