5 Things: Julie Wu at the Free Library For a Talk

1. Join the Watertown Free Library and Julie Wu, acclaimed author of The Third Son, at 7 p.m. for a discussion about the genesis of her fiction debut and how the book was inspired by her parents’ journey from Taiwan to America. Rich with Taiwanese history and driven by a loveable, tenacious hero based on Julie’s own father, The Third Son is the first American novel written from the Taiwanese perspective.
2. The Watertown Historical Commission is meeeting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Lower Level Hearing Room in the Administration Building at 149 Main St.
3. The Watertown Senior Center will be screening the film "Hitchcock" from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Center located at 31 Marshall St. Adapted from Stephen Rebello's biographical book, "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho," the film explores the relationship between the legendary British director (Anthony Hopkins) and his wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren), who played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in the making of her husband's terrifying 1960 classic "Psycho."

4. Join the members of the Church of the Good Shepherd, 9 Russell Ave at 7 p.m. for Hidden Brook, our contemplative service of candlelight, chant, prayer, silence, poetry, and music. This week we will celebrate the life of Columba, Abbot of Iona and Missionary. Stay for refreshments and conversation.
5. Folk Arts Center of New England holds a folk dance program on Thursday nights at the First Parish of Watertown 35 Church St. It features mostly request dancing and limited teaching. Prior international folk dance experience is helpful, but many dances can be followed by watching the leaders. Please wear clean, soft-soled shoes for dancing. .Admission $8 • FAC members $6 • Students $5
