5 Things: Youth Coalition's Community Awards Tonight

1. The Watertown Youth Coalition's 2013 Community Spirit Awards, which honors people committed to the health and well-being of Watertown’s youth and families, will be held tonight at Arsenal Park from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
2. Find ways to grow your business through word of mouth marketing by joining a network of more than 40 business owners who are looking to refer business to those that are the best in their profession. 3. They're playing Whist at the Watertown Senior Center. The group meets every week at the Center, 31 Marshall St., and welcomes new players! From 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

4. It's Teen Movie time at 3 p.m. at the Watertown Free Public Library. Come to the library and watch a newly-released on DVD movie on the library's big screen! Snacks may be provided. You are welcome to bring your own munchies. Grades 6 and up.

On this day in 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 – which ended unequal application of voter registration requirements and racial segregation in schools, at the workplace and by facilities that served the general public known as "public accommodations" – was approved after surviving an 83-day filibuster in the United States Senate.
