ADULT SERVICES
The History of Sarees
Wayland resident Bakul Wadgaonkar will present the heritage of Indian textiles, especially of the saree (sometimes spelled sari). In addition to sharing the history, styles, various patterns and weaves, and intercultural influences on sarees, Bakul will demonstrate saree draping. You'll also have a chance to try one on. Virtual Author Talk: Ruth Ware and Zero Days
The bestselling author of The It Girl and The Woman in Cabin 10 reads from and discusses her latest adrenaline-fueled thriller. Register. Wednesday, October 18 at 2 p.m.
Wayland Poetry Workshop Public Reading
The Poetry Workshop has been meeting since the 1980s at the library, having started in people’s houses even earlier. Since the pandemic, the workshop has been meeting via Zoom, but this event will be both in person and online. The featured reader will be Linda Goldberg of Natick, who is both a poet and a prose writer. After Linda reads, other members will offer one poem each. Register for the Zoom link. Virtual Author Talk: John Irving and The Last Chairlift
An international bestseller since The World According to Garp in 1978, Irving has declared his latest to be his final long novel. He’ll discuss not only that book but the others that have come out of a lifetime of writing. Register. Thursday, October 26 at 7 p.m.
Sign Up for ESOL Tutor Training
It doesn’t matter if you don’t speak a foreign language or have never taught before. Once you complete the Library-sponsored training course, you’re ready for what could be a wonderfully rewarding relationship. The class will meet on five consecutive Wednesdays, 6:00–9:00 p.m., starting October 18. The first four class sessions will meet via Zoom, the last one in person, at the Wayland Library. Take the Case
Our display case in the lower foyer, outside the Children's Room, is available for the next several months. Maybe it's time you showed the world your collection of snuff boxes. Or the World War II memorabilia your grandfather left behind. Or there's a fascinating historical figure whose story you think needs to be told. If you'd like to discuss an exhibit or display, drop us a line at info@waylandlibrary.org.

PUMPKIN DECORATING CONTEST
Kids and Teens are invited to participate in our annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Register for a library pumpkin or use your own to compete for Best Decorated or Best Carved in your age group. Contestants will submit pictures of their creations by 10/23, then voting will take place online. Pumpkins generously donated by Stop and Shop. Click HERE for more details.

Outdoor Baby & Toddler Storytime with Ms. Carly
This storytime encourages early literacy and caregiver-child interactions with lively songs and rhymes, bounces, books, and body-awareness. Best for babies and toddlers, with caregiver.

Storytime with Ms. Pam

Fall Shapes Mobile with Ms. Elise
Join Ms. Elise to make a beautiful fall mobile! Children will choose from leaves, apples, or pumpkin cut-out shapes, decorate them with paint, watercolors and tissue paper, and suspend the decorated shapes from a wooden branch. Pokemon Card Trading Day
