Letter: Cliff is the 'Clear Choice' for Wayland's Future

Dear Editor: 

I am writing to support Gordon Cliff for the open Board of Selectman seat. To me, he is a clear choice for our town’s future – and, closer to home, for my young family’s future.

Seven years ago we moved to Wayland from Boston as we planned the next stage in our family life. We knew we had the option of many towns:  we wanted one that had a great community of commitment, volunteerism and social network, and a strong school system. In some sense, we knew part of our tradeoff was private school tuition vs taxes, and we wanted to make that choice.  Our daughter will enter the school system next year and we’re looking forward to seeing her learn and grow with neighbors and friends for the next 13 years.

In talking extensively with Gordon about his campaign – we have enjoyed a friendship with  the Cliffs since Beth and I were involved in the high school initiative --  we know that he appreciates that difficult but wise choices  today will pay dividends for Wayland in the future; that cost-cutting  just for the sake of reducing taxes is not what the town has been about for a long time – certainly not sustainable for the next 13 years! Wayland is a great community because over the years people have made tough decisions that invest in the long-term. Gordon Cliff represents this same kind of thinking. Anyone who watches his debate performance on WayCam from Campaign night can tell what he is all about. 

I want to make sure Wayland remains the community we joined for our family.  This is a pivotal election. Please join us in enthusiastically endorsing Gordon Cliff for town selectman.
