Transfer Station Sticker Price To Nearly Double In Wayland
The sticker price is jumping, and for good reason, according to the Public Works director.

WAYLAND, MA—The director of the Department Works has said that the dynamics of the recycling business have changed. And with that means an increase for Wayland.
In a letter submitted to the Wayland Town Crier by Director Thomas Holder, he explains that while the sticker price has been set "very low" for the transfer station at $20, that price will jump to $45.
"When Wayland began an earnest entry into single-stream recycling, the Transfer Station was actually able to process the single-stream recyclable material for either a credit, or in recent years, for a price of about $6 per ton," he wrote. "As such, our sticker charge to recycle unlimited amounts of Wayland residents’ household recyclable material was set very low at $20 per year.
"The Transfer Station cannot keep such a low price for recycle-only stickers. We have raised the cost of those stickers from $20 to $45. It might seem that we should charge more for people who recycle more, but the costs to administer a 'pay-as-you-throw' recycle program would be way more than the cost associated with making the administrative process simple by increasing the fee and having to collect it only once."
