Want To Be A Wayland Police Officer?

The Wayland Police Department is looking for two to three candidates.

WAYLAND, MA—The Wayland Police Department, in conjunction with Police Exam Solutions (PES), is searching for talented candidates to register for the upcoming Police Officer Entrance Exam, the department announced recently.

The exam is scheduled for Saturday, Dec 2, at Wayland High School. Registration ends at 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, or when the maximum capacity is reached; whichever comes first. The exam fee is $125 and is non-refundable.

The Wayland Police Department consists of one lieutenant, six sergeants, twelve patrol officers, and one youth officer. Police Chief Patrick Swanick said that the department is looking to hire two to three eligible police officer candidates.

In order to be eligible for a position, all candidates must be able to meet the following basic qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age, and no older than 35 years of age at the time of the exam.
  • Non-Smoker pursuant to M.G.L. c41, s101A.
  • Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. at time of exam. Preference may be given to applicants possessing a college degree, military experience or a combination of both.
  • Provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, or obtain one prior to appointment.
  • Must reside within 15 miles of the border of the Town of Wayland within one year of appointment. Relocation expenses are not provided. Time will be allowed for relocation associated with appointment.
  • Must possess, or qualify for a Massachusetts Firearms License To Carry (LTC) permit, class-A.
  • Have NO Felony convictions.
  • Must complete a satisfactory background examination.
  • Must pass written entrance examination.
  • Must be able to complete a physical examination and psychological examination, provided by the Town of Wayland.
  • Must possess the ability to complete all the requirements established by the Massachusetts Municipal Training Council to be a certified police officer in Massachusetts.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete Oral board interviews.
  • Must submit a cover letter & resume.

The multiple choice exam evaluates how candidates manage stress and responsibility as well as their emotional and interpersonal skills, work ethic, problem solving and levels of comprehension in reading, writing and math.
