Wayland Paramedic Among Recent Fire Academy Grads

Kyle McLaughlin was among the 68 graduates in the 198th class of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

The Wayland Fire Department is celebrating the graduation of one of its paramedics from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

Kyle McLaughlin was one of the 68 graduates from 40 departments across the state who were honored March 29 in a graduation ceremony at the Department of Fire Services in Stow.

McLaughlin was sworn in to the Wayland Fire Department in July 2012 as the department's third paramedic. He has been serving as part of Wayland's Advanced Life Support team since then. He began the 60-day Recruit Firefighting Program in January.

According to a press release, the program McLaughlin completed includes classroom hours as well as physical fitness training, firefighter skills training and live fire practice.

McLaughlin worked with a private ambulance company before joining the Wayland department.
