5 Events to Mark on the October Calendar in Bloomfield

From corn mazes to firefighting demonstrations, October has a lot to offer residents of the Bloomfield area.

October is here, and though one 'holiday' gets the majority of attention, there's still plenty happening in Bloomfield before Halloween. Here are some highlights:

Corn Maze, Oct. 5

The Bloomfield Hills Corn Maze, hosted by the Bloomfield Hills Schools, will open for another season on Oct. 5 on the Charles L. Bowers School Farm,   This year's festivities will run on weekends through Oct. 27, and features three separate mazes (beginner, intermediate and advanced). There's also wagon rides, live farm animals, pony rides and more. The fun starts at 5 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. on Saturday, and at noon on Sunday. The haunted maze, which runs on a different course, runs from dusk until 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26.

Bloomfield Township Open House, Oct. 13

You may have seen or read about the fun had at the series of open houses hosted by Bloomfield Hills last month, and now it's Bloomfield Township's turn. 

From noon to 4 p.m., township residents can participate in firefighting demonstrations, take rides in police patrol vehicles, paint pumpkins, get up close to a rescue helicopter and more for free. Visit the township website for more information.

Colleges Visit Bloomfield Hills, Oct. 14


Are you or a loved one eyeballing colleges and universities but don't know where to start or what to expect from the application process? Don't miss College Night at the new Bloomfield Hills High School from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dozens of colleges from around Michigan and the United States will participate and showcase what they have to offer prospective students. BHS Strategic Planning, Oct. 24

The Bloomfield Hills Schools will host a meeting to review the previous 10-year strategic plan and discuss where the district is going at 7 p.m.Oct. 24 at West Hills Middle School. This is the follow-up session to the first review of the strategic plan on Oct. 1. 


'Secrets of Happy Families' 

Join Bruce Feiler, author of  'Secrets of Happy Families' for a special presentation at 10 a.m. Oct. 30 at Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township. Registration is required and open to township residents only. More information is available on the Bloomfield Township Public Library website.
