Bloomfield, Birmingham Residents Help 'Polish' Belle Isle

The Belle Isle Conservancy's annual 'Polish the Jewel' fund-raiser helps restore, maintain the historic buildings and grounds on the island.

Several residents of Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham were among the more than 400 to attend the Belle IsleConservancy's 9th annual Polish the Jewel Legacy Luncheon  Wednesday at the landmark Belle Isle Casino.

Throughout the afternoon, attendees bid on an array of silent auction items including:
·      Hotel stays at Grand Hotel, MGM Grand Detroit and Westin Book Cadillac
·      New and vintage jewelry
·      Boutique accessories
·      Fine art
·      Sports, dining and entertainment packages
·      Unique family-friendly experiences

The Belle Isle Conservancy, which aims to protect, preserve, restore and enhance the natural environment and unique historic structures on Belle Isle, raised more than $200,000, officials said.

“The Polish the Jewel, Belle Isle Legacy Luncheon is now a 9-year tradition celebrating Detroit’s jewel – Belle Isle,” said Luncheon Chairwoman Sheila Cockrel.
