Local health departments report the number of new and ongoing outbreaks they are investigating by the setting of the outbreak, the state said. Ongoing outbreaks are considered those that have already been identified in previous weeks, but have had at least one new associated case.

The state said that many factors, such as the lack of ability to conduct effective contact tracing in some areas, may result in significant underreporting of outbreaks.

One of the K-12 reports was made in Region 1 of Michigan, which according to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's MI Safe Start plan encompasses Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Hillsdale, Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston and Shiawassee counties.

The other two reports were made in Region 2N, which includes Macomb, Oakland and St. Clair counties.
