Allen Park Man Accused Of Jumping Detroit Drawbridge In Car

WAYNE COUNTY, MI — An Allen Park man has been accused by Wayne County prosecutors of jumping the Fort Street drawbridge in southwest Detroit with his vehicle Wednesday.
Miguel Gomez, 26, is charged with the malicious destruction of property valued between $1,000 to $20,000, reckless driving and the malicious destruction of the the bridge's security gate/fence, prosecutors said. Gomez is expected to be arraigned Friday afternoon, according to the prosecutor's office.
“These pandemic times have seemingly brought out the worst in many Michigan drivers," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "The rules of the road are the same and there is no place for drivers who refuse to follow them and instead try alleged stunts like this.”

According to Wayne County prosecutors, officers from the Detroit Police Department were called to the 10500 block of West Fort Street and Miller Road around 7 p.m. Wednesday, where they found a vehicle stopped on the western side of the Fort Street drawbridge. The bridge goes over the Rouge River.
Prosecutors said Gomez struck and drove through the bridge's security gate while driving fast, going airborne and landing on the other side of the bridge. Officers arrested Gomez at the scene, prosecutors said.
