Coldest Temps Since 1994 Still In Store For Michigan

The worst is yet to come this week, according to the forecast. See how far below zero the temperatures will get.

SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN — A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect Monday morning until midnight Tuesday as 3-5 inches of snow is expected around Southeastern Michigan, including in Wayne, Washtenaw, Monroe and Lenawee counties.

The National Weather Service warns of slipper driving conditions impacting morning and evening commutes and limited visibilities during periods of snow fall.

The cold front has moved in as the polar vortex makes its return to Michigan. According to local forecasters, this is the coldest air locals have had to deal with since 1994, closing down some 700 schools across the region.

Expect temps to drop even lower this week, with wind gusts, negative wind chills and new snow accumulation.

Monday
Snow. High near 34. Wind chill values as low as -3. Breezy, with an east southeast wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of around 3 inches.

Monday night
Snow, mainly before 10pm. Areas of blowing snow before 1am. Low around 12. Breezy, with a west southwest wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Tuesday
Partly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 10 by 5pm. Wind chill values as low as -9. Breezy, with a west southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tuesday Night
Mostly cloudy, with a low around -8. Wind chill values as low as -28. West southwest wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Wednesday
Cloudy and cold, with a high near -2. Breezy, with a west southwest wind 17 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph.
