Detroit Board Of Police Commissioners Vice-Chair Dies
Martin Jones, the vice chair of the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners, was found dead in his vehicle, according to Detroit police.
DETROIT, MI —Martin Jones, the vice chair of the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners, has died. The Detroit Police Board of Police Commissioners (BOPC) confirmed the news Thursday morning.
"Our city and the Board of Police Commissioners will miss his voice and leadership. We extend condolences and our deepest sympathy to all his family, friends, and loved ones," BOPC announced on its official Facebook page.
Detroit police told FOX 2 that Jones was found dead in his vehicle in Highland Park. It was not immediately known how Jones died; however, foul play is not suspected.

"Police Commissioner Jones had a passion for service and a commitment to leaving behind something better. While our hearts are heavy today, they are also filled with gratitude. This is a deep loss to the city. My thoughts are with his loved ones during this time," Detroit Police Chief James White.

Jones was appointed by Mayor Mike Duggan and confirmed by city council for an at-large term that began in July 2020.

He was also a leader with Detroit 300, a community coalition comprised of residents, civic groups, businesses, and organizations that banned together to fight and deter crime in residential areas.
