While police are still reviewing the 2017 data, they expect to confirm their findings and will announce results at a press conference later in the week. Though the number of killings is the lowest in decades, the actual murder rate is higher now than in 1966. The murder rate in 1966 was 14 per 100,000 city residents, while now, it’s 40 per 100,000, according to the News.
