The bridge linking the state's lower and upper peninsulas was closed for several hours on Sunday, creating southbound backups.

ST. IGNACE, MI — The Mackinac Bridge was closed to traffic in both directions to and from Michigan's upper and lower peninsula for a few hours Sunday afternoon after a reported bomb threat.
Nothing had been found as of 5 p.m., the Mackinac Bridge Twitter account stated, although officials performed a second sweep of the bridge before it is reopened.

A bomb squad and K-9 units were on the scene before 4:30 p.m., 9 & 10 News reporter Eric Lloyd reported on Twitter. The Michigan Department of Transportation had already confirmed the bridge closure in both directions about two hours earlier.
Authorities were "dealing with an active bomb threat situation on the Mackinac Bridge," Lloyd tweeted, citing Michigan State Police.
