Michigan Adds 1,153 New Coronavirus Cases Over Last 2 Days
State health officials reported Monday that Michigan has added more than 1,100 new coronavirus cases over the course of the last two days.
MICHIGAN — The number of coronavirus cases in Michigan increased by more than 1,100 over the course of the last two days, state health officials reported Monday.
Michigan had added 1,153 new cases as of 10 a.m. Monday, bringing the state's total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 107,368. The state also added four more deaths attributed to the coronavirus over the last two days, as the death toll in Michigan grew to 6,538.
Michigan reported on Saturday that more than 80,000 people in the state have recovered from the coronavirus.

Michigan announced Sept. 1 that it would no longer report new coronavirus cases on Sunday, opting instead to announce two days of data on Monday.

"At this time, reporting on Sunday rather than Monday is not critical to our understanding of the virus," MDHHS Director Robert Gordon said in a statement. "This change will allow staff who have not had a real day off since February to get some relief and allow the department to prioritize more valuable data reporting, including school outbreak information."
According to the World Health Organization, Michigan ranks 18th in the U.S. in reported coronavirus cases. Michigan is ninth in the nation in deaths attributed to the virus.
In the U.S., more than 6.4 million coronavirus cases have been reported, according to the World Health Organization. The cases ranks the nation as the world's leader in reported cases, ahead of India (4.2 million cases) and Brazil (4.1 million cases). The U.S. has reported over 193,000 coronavirus deaths, while reporting 3.7 million recoveries.
Over 27.4 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported around the world, according to the World Health Organization. Over 894,000 deaths have been attributed to the virus, while more than 19.4 million people have recovered.
