Nearly 118,000 Coronavirus Cases Have Been Confirmed In Michigan
After adding over 500 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, Michigan's case total is closing in on 118,000.
MICHIGAN — Nearly 118,000 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Michigan, according to the most recent data released Tuesday by state health officials.
Michigan reported that 504 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the state, increasing the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Michigan to 117,910. Meanwhile, officials said that 15 more people in Michigan have died from the virus, bringing the state death toll to 6,680.
Meanwhile, the death toll in the U.S. eclipsed 200,000 on Tuesday, prompting Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to call on President Donald Trump and federal officials to develop a national strategy amid the pandemic.

She also issued a statement honoring those who have died thus far during the pandemic.
“As we remember and honor all of those we have lost to this virus, we must not forget that each life was a person who had a story: plans, dreams, and more life to live," Whitmer said in a statement issued Tuesday. "We owe it to our families, our neighbors, all of the brave frontline workers, and to our fellow Michiganders to continue taking this virus seriously and prevent more devastation in our communities. My heart is with the families of those whose lives were tragically cut short by COVID-19."

Whitmer said that while Michigan has made progress in its fight against COVID-19 over the past six months, but residents need to remain vigilant going forward.
“As we continue to face to the biggest health emergency of our lifetime, we may never know the number of lives that have been saved, but we do know that in doing our part by wearing a mask, remaining six feet apart, and staying home and stay safe, we have saved many lives," she said. “As we honor each of the more than 200,000 American lives lost to this virus, I hope it serves as a reminder to each and every one of us to do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19 and help save lives. I know this loss weighs heavily, but Michiganders are tough. We will get through this together.”
Michigan ranks 17th in the U.S. in reported coronavirus cases. The state is ninth in the nation in reported deaths.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 7 million coronavirus cases have been reported in the U.S. The U.S. surpassed 200,000 deaths attributed to the coronavirus on Tuesday. Over 4.3 million people in the U.S. have recovered from the virus.
Over 31.6 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. More than 972,000 people worldwide have died from the virus, while over 23.2 million have recovered. More than 7.4 million coronavirus cases around the world remain active.
