Sanders Purchases Macomb County Property

Detroit Candy Maker Exploring Development Ideas

Sanders and Morley Candy Makers, Inc. announced Wednesday, Dec 27, that the company has purchased roughly five acres of land adjacent to the candy company’s corporate HQ and chocolate factory in Clinton Township. The added land gives Sanders space it needs for expansion. According to a statement, the Michigan candy makers are growing rapidly, and still deciding among various options for use of the newly-acquired parcel.

“This land can be used in a variety of ways to benefit our operations,” said Ron Rapson, President of Sanders and Morley Candy Makers, in a release. “Our team is working to make careful considerations on how to best use it taking into account both the current and future needs of our growing business.”

Over the last three years, Sanders has invested several million dollars into manufacturing and operations, including an extensive remodel to its flagship Chocolate & Ice Cream Shoppe completed this October. Since 2014, Sanders has added three new production lines and a 50,000-square foot distribution center.

“It’s an exciting time to be part of this iconic brand as we embark on our next 142 years,” Rapson said. “We look forward to taking on even more opportunities and further growing our team in the future.”

Sanders was founded in 1875 in Downtown Detroit. The Woodward Avenue business soon expanded and today, they operate nine Michigan candy and ice cream shops. The company began operating in Macomb county in the 1980s and employs over 200 people.
