See Active Coronavirus Outbreaks In Michigan Schools

MICHIGAN — There are 36 active outbreaks of the coronavirus in Michigan schools, according to data provided by state health officials on Monday. That number includes 21 new outbreaks that were reported on Monday.

The largest ongoing outbreak reported is at Grand Valley State University, where 694 cases of the coronavirus have been reported, according to state data.

Michigan State University has reported the second highest number of cases with 533.

Below are outbreaks of the coronavirus associated with education institutions throughout Michigan, as reported by local health departments.

COVID-19 outbreaks are generally defined as two or more cases with a link by place and time indicating a shared exposure outside of a household.

Case counts for school-related outbreaks include those associated with before and after school programs such as after school sports.

Students or staff who were exposed to the coronavirus outside of school grounds and are not thought to have spread the disease on the school grounds due to quarantine, self-isolation or other means, are not included in the table below.

Many factors, including the lack of ability to conduct effective contact tracing in certain settings, may result in underreporting of outbreaks.

This information does not provide a complete picture of school-related outbreaks in Michigan and the absence of identified outbreaks in an educational institution in no way provides evidence that, in fact, that school is not experiencing an outbreak, the state warned.
