Wayne County Man Accused Of Abuse Against 13-Month-Old
The victim's mother was arraigned on child abuse charges in July.
WAYNE COUNTY, MI — A second person faces felony charges following accusations of abuse against 13-month-old Zion Reed in Ecorse.
James Edward Gibson, Jr., 34, of Ecorse, is charged with first-degree child abuse, a felony punishable by up to life in prison. Gibson is expected to be formally arraigned next week.
Prosecutors said Gibson was living with Lisa Marie and her two 13-month-old twin sons when the abuse took place. Marie was arraigned in July on child abuse charges.

“There is simply not much that prepares you for the allegations in this case for 13-month-old twin Zion Reed," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "It is important to note that the investigation into the homicide of Zaire Reed is not completed, and we are waiting to receive and review other work that we have requested in this case."

Prosecutors said Ecorse police officers responded to the 3900 block of 7th Street July 28 following the report of a child being abused. One child, Zyaire Reed was pronounced dead, prosecutors said, while Zion Reed survived and is receiving treatment for injuries.
Prosecutors said no additional information would be released, citing the ongoing homicide investigation.
