Farmington Hills To Repurpose High School Into Community Center

Declining Enrollment Spells End For Harrison High

City officials plans to turn Harrison High School into a community center, according to the Farmington Voice. Declines in the school’s enrollment and declining tax revenues will force the closing of the Farmington Public Schools facility by June 2019. The school, centered on a large campus on 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills, could serve a variety of purposed, and the city discussed placing school administrative offices, the transportation department in the soon-to-be-empty building.

The City of Farmington Hills formally declared interest in the 240,000-square-foot space, presenting a letter of intent during a school board workshop Dec. 19. According to minutes of the last city council meeting, “Mayor Massey stated that staff needs to know if Council feels this is an option worth pursuing with the schools. He believes the city could re-purpose this building and provide some amenities that the city originally promised from the parks and recreation millage at a much smaller cost than building a new facility.”
