Oakland County Man Carjacked By Thief Hiding In Back Seat: Police

The elderly man told police the thief was hiding in the back Seat of his car at an Oakland County gas station Monday morning, police said.

HOLLY, MI — An elderly man was carjacked at an Oakland County gas station Monday morning by someone hiding in the back seat of his car, police said.

The 78-year-old man told police he drove to the Mobil gas station at Grange Hall and Holly roads in Holly and walked inside the store, police said.

When the elderly man returned to his car, he told police a man emerged from the back seat, claiming to have a gun and told him to drive back to his home on East Holly Road in Groveland Township, police said.

Once they arrived back at the home, the thief took the elderly man's keys and sped away in his car, police said.

After getting a description of the car, which police did not release, state troopers found the car broken down on the 4100 block of 1st Street in Brown City, roughly 65 miles from the Holly gas station.

As troopers approached the thief, he fought officers, who then tased the man and arrested him in connection to the carjacking without further incident, police said.

Although the thief claimed to have a gun, officers did not find a gun when they made the arrest, police said.

Prosecutors were reviewing the incident to determine what charges will be filed.
