Police Blotter: Woman Reports 'Pick-Pocketing'

A 61-year-old woman reported to police that she was pick-pocketed while in the parking lot of office supply store June 13. The woman told officers she had her purse on her shoulder, zipped shut when a group of young men surrounded her and bumped into her. She did not realize her wallet had been taken until later in the day. She provided police with a vehicle description used by the men, and her driver's license and credit cards were found behind a business in the Village. She estimated she had $80 to $90 cash, identification and credit cards in her wallet, according to a report.

Crash Investigation Related to Possible Drugged Driving

City of Grosse Pointe detectives are investigating a crash in which the driver may have been under the influence of drugs. Officers were called to a crash on Kercheval Avenue between Lakeland and University on June 15. The 25-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods woman drove into a utility pole causing her to crack her windshield and strike her head. She was disoriented at the scene of the crash and told officers she was attempting to put apple juice back into a cupholder when she hit the pole. She was taken by Grosse Pointe Farms ambulance to an area hospital, where officers requested a blood draw for intoxicants be performed due to her state of confusion and a prescription found in her car for a drug used to treat opioid dependence. The case was referred to the detective bureau and she was preliminarily charged with driving on a suspended license, careless driving and given a seatbelt violation, according to a report.

Teen Steals Laptop, then Tackled by Witness

City of Grosse Pointe police arrested a 16-year-old Grosse Pointe Park resident June 14 after she stole a laptop computer from Staples, ran out of the store and was tackled by a witness. She ran across Mack Avenue with the computer but was tackled before she could go any farther. She was arrested, taken to the station and then her mother was called to pick her up. The case has been given to the juvenile officer, according to a report.

Drug Habit Leads to Theft of Jewelry

A 54-year-old City of Grosse Pointe resident reported June 13 to police that her son had stolen her jewelry and pawned it. The woman provided police with information about where her son told her he had pawned the jewelry, receiving $565 for it in total in five different transactions. The woman told police her son has a drug problem but is now in rehabilitation, according to a report.

Identity Fraud Reported

A 26-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms man reported to police June 19 that one or possibly two other men had used his personal information to open several credit cards and most recently used a fraudulently created Paypal account in his name. The man had encountered both men socially and one offered him work but required his social security number in order to pay him with a company credit card. The Farms resident was able to close all of the fraudulent accounts, according to a report.

A City of Grosse Pointe resident reported fraudulent use of her credit card Monday after finding a charge she did not make on her statement. The purchase was from Hanes.com for $154.70, according to a police report.

Domestic Battery Ends in Arrest

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 35-year-old woman June 16 for domestic battery of her husband. Officers were called to the house after the woman became angry with her husband because he could not find her and had called her parents to see if she was at their house. She hit him in the face several times and has a history of battering him, according to a report.
