Police Blotter: Home Invasions Investigated

police arrested a 21-year-old Belleville woman June 10 in connection with a burglary, an attempted burglary and for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The woman, Tanisha McCollum, is charged with three felony crimes. She was stopped on Lake Shore Road about 2:30 a.m. by U.S. Border Patrol. During the traffic stop, the officer discovered McCollum was driving a vehicle stolen from a home in the 900 block of Berkshire only a short time before. Detectives then discovered the woman had been in another house about two doors away earlier and had entered the house and attached garage. The car was tampered with but nothing was stolen, according to reports. Director of Public Safety David Hiller said the victims do not know the woman. He said it was not clear why why she was in the area or why she was targeting the area. McCollum has been arriagned in Grosse Pointe Park Court and is awaiting a preliminary exam hearing. 

Laptop, Handgun Stolen from Woods Home

police are investigating the burglary of a home in the 19700 block of East Ida Lane on June 4. During the burglary, a laptop and a handgun were stolen. One from an office and the other from a dresser drawer. Several other items of value were left behind but detectives were able to locate where the burglar entered and exited the house. The burglar also used a bathroom while committing the crime, which happened between 7 a.m. to noon, according to a report.

Fired Gunshots in Park Under Investigation

Grosse Pointe Park detectives are investigating the circumstances that led to shots being fired in the 1300 block of Balfour Road early June 10. A resident reported being followed home by a 21-year-old St. Clair Shores man after an altercation at a St. Clair Shores restaurant. The Grosse Pointe Park man reported that the other man fired several gunshots at him. Responding officers collected the shell casings from the spent bullets, according to a report. Director of Public Safety David Hiller said the shots did not injure anyone nor did it cause any damage. He described the case as unusual and said detectives are still trying to determine what happened leading up to the confrontation at 2:45 a.m. The St. Clair Shores man has not been charged, Hiller said. The department does receive calls regarding shots fired but often the problem is in Detroit and can easily be heard in the Park. Hiller could not recall the last time his department investigated gunshots being fired within Grosse Pointe Park. 

Jewelry Box Stolen from Third Floor Attic

police are investigating the theft of a jewelry box from a third floor attic from a home in the 60 block of Touraine Road. The jewelry box was stolen from December to June 5 and the owner intended to make a list of what was missing for detectives, according to a report.

Wheels of SUV Stolen Overnight

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating the theft of four wheels from a GMC Yukon parked in a driveway in the 100 block of Touraine Road. The 52-year-old owner of the SUV told police the theft happened between midnight to 7 a.m. June 12. Bricks were taken from a neighboring home to prop up the SUV and the back window was broken. The only thing taken from inside the SUV were the wheel locks, which were used to get the wheels off the SUV but left behind in the driveway. Other valuables left in the SUV, including a laptop and golf clubs, according to a report.

Bicyclist Arrested for Marijuana Possession

Grosse Pointe Farms police arrested a 19-year-old Grosse Pointe Park man June 13 for possession of marijuana after stopping him for riding his bicycle at 1:30 a.m. without a light. Officers discovered the marijuana while talking with him about his bicycle and the lack of a light, according to a report.  

Gas Pump Damaged by Motorist

Grosse Pointe Farms police are investigating damage to a gas pump at the reported by the owner. A customer backed into a pump, causing about $1,000 worth of damage to the pump and then drove away June 10. The owner reported the damage June 11 as the clerk was unsure what to do when it happened, according to a report. 

Business Reports Dumpster Usage by Others 

Grosse Pointe Woods police were called to a hair salon on Mack Avenue June 5 for possible illegal dumping after an employee discovered trash in the dumpster with what appeared to be medical waste. An employee reported finding the garbage with rubber gloves that did not belong to the salon. The responding officer spoke with a nearby medical office and the only possibility, according to employees there, is that a nighttime cleaning crew may have thrown trash in the dumpster. All of the medical waste is store in a special bin that is picked up by a company that handles medical waste. The employee said she would speak the nighttime cleaning crew, according to a report.
