New Haven Schools to Deprivatize District's Child Care Program

Public Schools seem to be privatizing everything these days. West Bloomfield Schools recently privatized transportation and custodial services. L’Anse Creuse Schools privatized lunch aides and crossing guards this year.

It’s rare to hear of a school district deprivatizing a service. But, that’s exactly what New Haven Community Schools has done.

Beginning Nov. 19, New Haven will take back its child care program for 3- and 4-year-olds from a private company, Rainbow Child Care of Troy, MI.

“We are very excited to be able to offer child care to three and four-year-olds with our own employees. These are our
youngest and most vulnerable children. The Rainbow company was excellent, but we feel better about watching these children ourselves,” said Keith Wunderlich, Superintendent.

New Haven’s child care program is available whether children need one hour or five full days of child care each week. The child care program is having an Open House all day on Nov. 20 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Families are invited to stop by anytime during those hours to see the program.

It is located at 30375 Clark Street, New Haven, adjacent
to the Early Childhood programs behind the Administration Building. The registration fee is waived for anyone signing up during the Open House.
