Curamus Terram Offers Challenges, Fun to Runners of All Ages

The Saturday morning event includes a kids 1/2-mile run, 5k run, 10k run and 13.1-mile half marathon.

This Saturday morning, runners, joggers and walkers of all ages will take to Oakland Township's trails and roads in this year's Curamus Terram event.

Curamus Terram, which translates to "Care Takers of the Earth," features a kids 1/2-mile run, 5k run, 10k run and 13.1-mile half marathon. Participants may register online at www.goracego.com or in-person on the day of the race.

"The scenic half-marathon course is a combination of paved road (approximately three miles), dirt roads and Bald Mountain State Recreation Area trails," reads a press release from Oakland Township. "This year’s event is endorsed by the Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness, Health and Sports."

All of the races begin in Goodison near the and wind through the terrain of beautiful Oakland Township, including the and .

Race-day check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Paint Creek Cider Mill. The half marathon begins at 9 a.m., the 10k race at 9:10 a.m., the 5k race at 9:20 a.m. and the kids fun run at 9:30 a.m.

There is no pre-registration for the children's event; the cost for the kids fun run is $3 on the day of the race, and all finishers receive a prize. If paid on-line, registration fees are $20 for the 5k and 10k races and $25 for the half marathon.

All pre-registered half marathon participants receive Curamus Terram performance T-shirts, and medals are awarded to all race finishers.

Additionally, this year's adult participants are eligible to enter a lottery for a chance to run across the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day.

will also be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Bear Creek Nature Park and will feature various outdoor family events, including inflatable bouncers, music, guided hikes and crafts.
