Paddlepalooza Returning to the Clinton River June 2

It's a popular kayak and canoe race from Auburn Hills to Rochester Hills.

The Clinton River is calling.

Kayakers, canoeists and other river-lovers are invited to this year's Paddlepalooza, a paddle race down the river planned for June 2.

More than 150 people are expected to turn out for the annual event, which begins at Riverside Park in Auburn Hills and ends upstream at the in Rochester Hills.

Paddlepalooza offers three courses: an 8-mile single-person kayak race, an 8-mile two-person canoe race, or a four-hour 8-mile adventure paddle.

  • The event is for those 12 and up; ages 12-18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Personal flotation devices are required.
  • The entry fee is $15 a person before May 25 and $20 a person after that date.
  • Canoes and kayaks are available for rent; contact Clinton River Canoe and Kayak Rental at 248-421-3445 or 248-252-8229 or reserve online at www.outdoorescorts.com. Rental is $35 per craft.
  • A rain date is planned for June 16; the event will be cancelled if the river height exceeds 2 feet.
  • The races begin at 8:30 a.m. and should end between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.; spectators are welcome for both the start and finish!
