Red Cross Issues Urgent Call for Blood, Platelet Donations
Local blood and platelet supplies are dangerously low, says American Red Cross.
The American Red Cross is asking anyone who is eligible to donate blood or platelets to do so as soon as possible, warning that local supplies are currently insufficient to meet the needs of our community’s hospitals in a timely manner.
The Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross needs 900 units of each and every day, according to a press release from the American Red Cross. To get as many donations as possible with the greatest efficiency, Red Cross officials are asking eligible blood and platelet donors to make appointments or to keep the appointments they have already made.
To make an appointment, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Donors can also click here to find nearby blood drives.

About the American Red Cross
The Southeastern Michigan Blood Services Region serves five counties, and needs to collect about 900 units of blood a day to meet patient need in 43 hospitals. In addition to supplying nearly half of the nation’s blood, the American Red Cross teaches lifesaving skills, provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization—not a government agency—and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.
