Sheriff's Helicopter Locates Lost Troy Hiker in Oakland Township Using Phone's GPS

A 63-year-old Troy man who became lost in the woods Monday afternoon near Predmore and Lake George roads in Oakland Township is safe after an Oakland County Sheriff's helicopter helped locate him.

The man had his cell phone with him and the GPS signal from his phone indicated he was near the intersection, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's office.

The helicopter arrived and hovered over the intersection, which is near , and instructed the man to walk toward the helicopter. The man then emerged from the woods and made contact with sheriff's deputies.

The man, who was lost for approximately 10 minutes, did not have an apparent medical condition and was able to walk to his vehicle, said Oakland Township Substation Commander Sgt. Anthony Spencer.
