Board Reverses Course, Ridge Road To Be Paved
A portion of Ridge Road will be paved after Canton's Board of Trustees agreed to fund the project.
CANTON, MI — A portion of Ridge Road will be paved after all. Two weeks after rejecting the $2.7 million project, Canton Township’s Board of Trustees reversed itself and approved funding in a 5-2 vote. Ridge will be paved from Hanford Road to Warren Road.
“The latest developments came on the same night of a sweeping decision to create an advisory task force to identify deteriorating Canton roads and find ways to pay for repairs. Trustee Steven Sneideman already has urged the board to increase local taxes by 1 mill, a move that would generate $3.5 million a year and cost the owner of a $200,000 house about $8 a month.”
"As far as I am concerned, the current state of our roads, in terms of traffic and disrepair issues, is an emergency to the people of our community and we should treat it as such," Sneideman said.
