'Hairspray,' Canton Cheifettes Variety Show and More This Weekend

1. Spotlight Players Present "Hairspray"

  • When: Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2 p.m. 
  • Where: Cherry Hill Village Theater, 50400 Cherry Hill Rd, Canton
  • What: It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire -- to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. She must use her new-found power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin, and tackle racial inequality in a TV network, all without denting her 'do!

2. "The Lone Ranger" at the Penn Theatre

  • When: Friday, 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Where: The Penn Theatre, 760 Penniman Avenue, Plymouth
  • What: Native American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice.

3. Talk Like a Pirate Day Celebration

    • When: Saturday, 11 a.m.
    • Where: Plymouth District Library, 223 S. Main St. 
    • What: Ahoy thar, Maties! Everyone's invited to the Talk Like a Pirate Day Celebration & Downtown Treasure Hunt. Check in at the Youth Desk (Lower Level) to pick up your first clue. Teen Volunteers (wearing pirate hats) will be about town to lend assistance. Collect your prizes at the Library after the treasure hunt (Main Level).  Treasure Hunt Clues available until 3 p.m.

    4. Canton Chiefettes Variety Show

    • When: Saturday, 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
    • Where: Salem High School, Gloria Logan Auditorium
    • What: This year we celebrate 40 years of Pom history at Canton High School with “A Black Tie Affair.”  The Variety show features the Canton Varsity and JV Award-winning Pom teams as well as musical and dance acts from the community at large. It’s a fun show for the whole family.

    5. Brian Woehlke Pig Roast Fundraiser

    • When: Saturday, 5 p.m.
    • Where: American Legion Post 32, 9318 Newburgh Rd, Livonia
    • What: $20 admission includes food, beer and entertainment by Wiley Coyote. Proceeds from the pig roast and acution will be given to Brian's family.
