M-14/I-96 Project In Wayne County Begins This Weekend: What To Know
The project begins with a weekend closure of both directions on Michigan 14/Interstate 96 between Sheldon Road and Interstate 275.

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI — Construction crews will begin working on a massive Michigan 14/Interstate 96 project in Wayne County this weekend, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The three-year $139 million project includes rebuilding the freeway with new concrete pavement from Sheldon Road to Newburgh Road, including the ramps at the Michigan 14/Interstate 96/Interstate 275 interchange, according to road officials.
Crews will close Northville Road over Michigan 14 for bridge work at 9 a.m. Friday. The closure is expected to last roughly one month, according to road officials.

Crews will also close both directions on Michigan 14/Interstate 96 between Sheldon Road and Interstate 275 from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday, according to road officials.

- Westbound Michigan 14 to Sheldon Road
- Northbound Interstate 275 to westbound Michigan 14

- Sheldon Road to eastbound Michigan 14
Here's how westbound Michigan 14/Interstate 96 traffic will be detoured:
- Northbound Interstate 275 traffic can go further north to westbound Interstate 96, then take southbound US 23 to eastbound or westbound Michigan 14.
- Southbound Interstate 275 traffic can go to westbound Interstate 94, then take northbound US 23 to eastbound or westbound Michigan 14.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured using southbound US 23 to eastbound Interstate 94, then northbound Interstate 275 to eastbound Interstate 96, according to road officials.
Local traffic will be able to take eastbound Michigan 14 up to Sheldon Road, according to road officials.
The project also includes work on 17 bridges and rebuilding the Interstate 275 Metro Trail along M-14 from Edward Hines Drive to Interstate 275, according to road officials.
Later this summer, crews will start bridge work and shoulder widening. Crews will rebuild the eastbound lanes on Michigan 14/Interstate 96 in 2025, and then the westbound lanes in 2026, according to road officials.
