PSAT Testing:
On Wednesday April 13, 2022, all Pioneer 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT at Pioneer Middle School. We will be running an alternate schedule for the day and more details will be coming soon. If you have an 8th grade student, please make sure that you do not schedule any appointments or activities that would require them to miss school on April 13th.
Health & Safety Reminders:
This school year, we have a number of students who have significant asthma issues and/or sensitivities to fragrances/scents. In order to try to improve the environment for students at Pioneer, we are asking teachers, students and staff members not to bring cleaning products, deodorizers, or other personal care products into the school unless they are identified as fragrance free. Allergic and asthmatic patients, as well as those with other conditions, report that certain odors, even in the smallest amounts, can trigger an episode. If you could please support our efforts by encouraging your student not to bring scented or fragranced items to school, it would be greatly appreciated.
6th Grade Orientation Night:
If you have an incoming 6th grade student, we will be holding our annual 6th grade Orientation Night on Thursday, April 28th. This will be an in-person event and students will be split into two groups. Students from Isbister, Miller and Tonda Elementary schools will attend from 5:30-6:15 PM. Students from Workman Elementary will attend from 7:00-7:45 PM. We will share more details regarding this event as the date approaches.

District Updates:
On Friday, February 25, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) updated its requirements related to public transportation, including while riding school buses. The announcement is aligned with last week’s updated guidance for mask wearing in K-12 schools in areas with a low or medium COVID-19 Community Level.
As of this week, masks will no longer be required to be worn by students while riding on school buses. Students may continue wearing masks if they choose. Durham Transportation staff will be required to wear masks in accordance with the Transportation Security Administration’s mask mandate, which is in place until March 18, 2022. Masks are available on all buses for student and staff use.
Please discuss your masking decisions with your student(s).
