Plymouth-Canton Students Destroy Israeli Flag During Walkout: Official

Plymouth-Canton school officials said there will be more security and support staff on campus.

PLYMOUTH-CANTON, MI — Officials are increasing security and support staff on campus after Plymouth-Canton students tore apart an Israeli flag during a student-led walkout, according to school officials.

A social media video appears to show the students, purportedly from Plymouth, Canton and Salem high schools, laughing and chanting "Rip it, rip it, rip it," as they tore apart an Israeli flag, school officials said in a letter sent to parents.

Plymouth Canton Community Schools Superintendent Monica Merritt said the district supports any student's right to peacefully protest, but walkouts of this nature are against board policies as they can be disruptive.
