Plymouth-Canton Schools Welcome New Communications Director

Kate Dietrich takes over as the district's new communications director with more than 13 years of experience in public relations and marketing within agency, nonprofit and university settings.

After six months and three separate job postings, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools finally has a new communications director.

Kate Dietrich completed her first week of what she told School Board members is the most exciting career opportunity in her life.

Dietrich was named as the director of communications, community engagement and marketing over 38 other applicants, seven of which were given interviews. She replaces former director Frank Ruggirello, who resigned in February.

Dietrich spent the last 10 years at the American Cancer Society, where she was manager of communications for the Michigan region.

Superintendent Michael Meissen welcomed Dietrich and told Board members he believed they gained a superstar and was very excited to have her on the team.

"These were all very strong candidates and she (Dietrich) certainly distinguished herself from those in the candidate pool as a person who has a really strong record of accomplishment," Meissen said during the July 22 School Board meeting. "And we were very careful in our selection to make sure we had the right stuff: a nice blend of the ability to communicate in all the forms of media and an understanding of systems.

"I believe she really has passion around good work and leadership, so I know she understands the importance of engaging all of our citizenry around our school and also the idea of marketing the good story we have in this era of competitiveness with schools and maintaining the level of sophistication and good communication," he said.
