5 Things to Know this Week: Elvis Plays Royal Oak, City Commission, Auto Auction

There is a lot going on around town this week. What do you have planned?

Following are five things going on in Royal Oak this week you might like to know about:

Monday: Elvis visits Royal Oak

Elvis Costello and The Imposters bring their “The Revolver Tour" to the at 8 tonight for an all-ages show. “For the first time in 25 years, Costello will let his set-list be chosen by ‘The Spectacular Spinning Songbook,’ a monumental game-show wheel that features 40 song-titles, including hits, rarities and very unexpected covers,” according to a press release. Fans are invited on stage to spin the musical wheel and then stay to dance in a go-go cage or sit in a “Society Lounge”, where light refreshments will be served while Costello and the band perform the randomly selected song. Tickets are $50 day at the box office.

Monday: City Commission meets

On the agenda at tonight’s Royal Oak City Commission meeting is a request to use state forfeiture funds to pay the cost of a 66th police officer position so the department doesn’t have to call back the officer on the county Narcotics Enforcement Team; a resolution to state legislators on residency rules for city employees; police department awards and a presentation on Economic Gardening. Thursday: Board of Education meets

The full agenda for Thursday’s meeting was not yet available, but we do know this will be the final school board meeting retiring superintendent Tom Moline will attend. Moline has been with the school district for six years and in Michigan education 38 years. Friday: Lincoln/Civil War exhibit at Historical Society Museum opens

Costumed Civil War re-enactors will explain the exhibits and period-appropriate light refreshments will be served at the 's Abraham Lincoln/Civil War exhibit's preview 6-9 p.m. Friday. Admission is $10 at the door. The exhibit will run through October with admission free but donations requested. Saturday: Police departments auction autos

The Royal Oak Police Department and Berkley Public Safety will auction vehicles that were abandoned or involved in accidents on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. at A&M Towing/impound lot at 303 E. Harrison. All transactions are cash only. Check the police property auction page for more information and a list of autos.
