Rally For Transgender Troops Sunday In Royal Oak

The rally is in response to President Donald Trump's statements about transgender people serving in the military.

ROYAL OAK, MI — A rally for America’s transgender troops will be held Sunday at Royal Oak City Hall starting at noon. TG Detroit’s Samantha Rogers called for the rally shortly after President Donald Trump Tweeted his opposition to transgender people serving in the military.

Royal Oak Mayor Michael Fournier is among a number local dignitaries expected to speak at the rally. State Rep. Jim Ellison, of Royal Oak, is also slated to appear.

Rogers, who leads the TG Detroit website, a guide to the transgender lifestyle, said in a statement that transgender troops were already among the most “persecuted and marginalized communities” prior to Trump’s statements. Sunday’s really is a message to the Trump Administration that transgender people will fight to maintain their right to serve their country.

Civic Direct reported that a number of other groups will be in attendance Sunday to show their support for transgender troops, including Transgender Michigan, Gender-Identity Network Alliance, Ferndale Pride, Stonewall For Revolution and Women’s March Michigan, Among others.
